What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Give Nexgard Spectra flea killer chews to your dog once a month, and you should give it to them on or near the same day every month. Follow this dosage schedule for Nexgard Spectra and order the correct product accordingly:

  • Dogs 4.5 to 8 lbs (2-3.5kg) - 0.5g flea and tick chewable once a month
  • Dogs 8 – 16 lbs (3.6 – 7.5kg) - 1g flea and tick chewable once a month
  • Dogs 16 – 33 lbs (7.6-15kg) - 2g flea and tick chewable once a month
  • Dogs 33 – 66 lbs (15.1 – 30kg) - 4g flea and tick chewable once a month
  • Dogs 66 – 130 lbs (30.1 – 60kg) - 8g flea and tick chewable once a month

Your pet can have one Nexgard Spectra with or without dog food, and breaking up flea and tick chews into smaller pieces is a good way for some dogs.


The active ingredients in Nexgard Spectra for Dogs are Afoxolaner and Milbemycin Oxime.


Nexgard Spectra flea, tick and worm prevention tablets are only for use with dogs and are not to be used for other types of pets, including not for use with cats. For dog use only. For dogs 8 weeks of age or older. Not for dogs weighing less than 4.5lbs (2kg).

Breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs should avoid using this product as it has not been evaluated for safety with these dogs. Speak to your veterinarian about combo flea and tick plus worm prevention for dogs. Keep out of reach children and animals.

Side Effects

Most pets will experience no negative side effects when using Nexgard Spectra Combo flea and tick medication. Side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or loss of appetite, and if any of these symptoms are observed you should discontinue use immediately. Talk with your veterinarian about worm prevention and flea and tick control alternatives.


There are no known interaction risks between Nexgard Spectra flea tick and worm chews and other Rx drugs.
