What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.


Frontline Plus (Frontline Combo) is a spot-on topical medication for dogs and cats that provides relief from fleas and American dog ticks, brown dog ticks, deer ticks, and lone star ticks. It also kills flea eggs and larvae, preventing fleas from re-establishing themselves on your pet. It is an FDA-approved medication and is known to be safe and effective. However, it is only for use with dogs and cats that are 8 weeks of age or older. There are no weight restrictions related to the use Frontline Plus.

The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are fipronil (9.8%)and (s)-methoprene (8.8%) for dogs and puppies, and fipronil (9.8%) and (s)-methoprene (11.8%) for cats and kittens.


Frontline Plus should be administered once a month and in the following manner: 

  • Remove product applicator
  • Lift and remove the plastic tab to expose foil backing. Peel away foil or use scissors to open
  • Open applicator and hold upright with foil side toward you and snap applicator tip
  • Part your dog or cats’ fur between the shoulder blades
  • Place the applicator tip just above the skin and squeeze
  • Apply entire contents of the applicator in a single spot directly onto the animal's skin
  • Empty entire contents of applicator before discarding
  • Avoid contact with treated area until dry

Dogs & Puppies 8 weeks or older:
Fipronil 9.8% & (S)-methoprene 8.8%
Cats & Kittens 8 weeks or older:
Fipronil 9.8% & (S)-methoprene 11.8%


  • Product is for external use on dogs and puppies 8 weeks or older
  • Consult a veterinarian before using on medicated animals, animals using this product with other pesticides, and debilitated, aged, pregnant, or nursing animals
  • Keep away from heat and open flame
  • This product is harmful to humans if swallowed
  • If exposed to eyes flush eyes with plenty of water and call a physician if irritation persists
  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing
  • Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling
