Description:
Cilazapril is an ACE inhibitor used for the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. For treatment of blood pressure, cilazapril may be used alone or in combination with diuretics (water pills) known as thiazide diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide) when one medication has not been found to control blood pressure satisfactorily. For treatment of congestive heart failure, cilazapril is used in addition to digoxin or thiazide diuretics or both.

Directions:
Recommended doses range from 0.5 mg to 10 mg once daily, depending on the condition being treated as well as the person's liver and kidney function. Cilazapril should be taken at the same time each day. The usual dose range for treatment of high blood pressure is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily at about the same time each day, with or without food. The usual dose range for congestive heart failure is 1 mg to 2.5 mg daily taken at about the same time each day.

Cautions:
Cilazapril should not be taken by anyone who:
* has an allergy to cilazapril or any ingredients of this medication
* has a history of angioedema (a serious allergic reaction which causes the area around the throat and tongue to swell) after taking any ACE inhibitors (e.g., captopril, enalapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, and others)
* has ascites (swollen abdomen due to liver problems)
* is pregnant
