The active ingredient of this drug is a substance known as azelastine hydrochloride. This component is actually an antihistamine (a type of drug) that is able to effectively prevent the unwanted actions of histamine. For those who are not familiar with this term (histamine), this substance is naturally produced in the human organism. Furthermore, it plays an important part in the defense mechanisms of the human body. This is why it can be found in all parts of the human organism, stored in a special type of cell (commonly known as a mast cell).
