This medicine is a protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat a certain type of leukemia (chronic myeloid leukemia or CML) as well as certain intestinal tumors (GISTs).

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling (especially in the legs or around the eyes), or muscle cramps. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience joint or muscle pain, stomach pain, rash, or severe weakness. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience trouble breathing, unusual weight gain, easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, fever, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, coffee-ground vomit, black stools, one-sided weakness, vision problems, slurred speech, or confusion. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
